Mapping the geography of English population growth 1761-1841

E.A. Wrigley has produced population estimates for every English hundred and wapentake for 1761-1841. Max Satchell has been working on a project funded by the British Academy to produce GIS boundary data for the hundreds and wapentakes. Mapping of this data at national level is now complete. Comparison between the map of the percentage population growth by hundred and the more conventional county mapping of the same data reveals the wealth of detail unlocked by this exercise.

A fuller set of maps for the period 1761 to 1841 for the counties of Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Huntingdonshire and Northamptonshire is also available.

A map of the percentage population growth by registration district for the period 1801 to 1851 is also available as are accurate estimates of county populations at ten-year intervals from 1761 to 1801.
