Members of the Occupational Structure of Britain c.1379-1911 Research Program

Dr Leigh Shaw-Taylor

Leigh Shaw-Taylor is the director of the research programme. He is responsible for the day-to-day management of the project and together with Amy Erickson leads the research team.

Dr Amy Erickson

Amy Erickson is co-director of the research programme and joined the project in 2007 as a Senior Research Associate. In 2013 she was appointed a Lecturer in the History Faculty. She directs the research on women's work with a particular focus on the pre-census period.

Dr Tony Cockerill

Tony Cockerill joined the project as a visiting research affiliate in 2017. He is working on the Court of Common Pleas in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.

Ying Dai

Ying Dai is doing a Ph.D. on the Occupational Structure of the Lower Yanze Region of China supervised by Leigh Shaw-Taylor.

Dr Oliver Dunn

Dr Oliver Dunn first worked on the project as a research assistant collecting occupational data before embarking on graduate work. He rejoined the project as a research associate in 2015 and has been working primarily on the transport project since then with a focus on coastal shipping.

Dr Jacob Field

Jacob Field joined the project from 2008 to 2012 as a research associate and again in 2017. He is no longer employed on the project but is continuing to work with us on various projects. He works with Dr Erickson on female occupations and with Dr Shaw-Taylor on male occupations with a particular focus on London.

Dr Sebastian Keibek

Sebastian Keibek did his BA, M.Phil and Ph.D on the project. He now holds a Junior Research Fellowship at Queens College, Cambridge. He works primarily on male occupational structure using a combination of testamentary records, parish registers and census data.

Dr Alexis Litvine

Alexis Litvine focuses on creating equivalent comparative data for France.

Ms Sophie McGeevor

Sophie McGeevor is doing a Ph.D. on women's work supervised by Amy Erickson and Leigh Shaw-Taylor.

Dr Alan Rosevear

Dr Alan Rosevear is a visiting research affiliate work on our transport project with a particular focus on roads.

Dr Lyn Boothman

Dr Lyn Boothman is a volunteer. Since completing her Ph.D. she has working part-time on a variety of projects in a voluntary capacity. She also has projects of her won and contributes to another Cambridge Group project.

Dr Max Satchell

Max Satchell worked almost continuously on the project from 2006 to early 2017. He has produced the numerous historical GIS and transport datasets which are central to the project. He is currently employed on other projects in the Cambridge Group but continues to be closely involved in the research program.

Professor Richard Smith

Richard Smith joined the project in a part-time capacity in 2008 and works primarily on estimating male occupational structure from poll tax returns 1377-1381.

Dr Keith Sugden

Keith Sugden did his masters and Ph.D thesis as part of the project. He is now a visiting affiliate woring on the project with a particular focus on the textile industry.

Ms Auriane Terki-Mignot

Auriane Terki-Mignot did her BA dissertation on female employment in Westmoreland and her M.Phil on female employment in France. She is now doing a Ph.D. on female employment during industrialisation in France, supervised by Alexis Litvine and Leigh Shaw-Taylor.

Ms Joanne Wallace

Joanne Wallace is doing Ph.D. on rural depopulation and migration supervised by Joe Day and Leigh Shaw-Taylor.
