Management

The overall management structure of GCII is outlined in the figure shown here:

GCII Board Structure

The Network’s management was comprised of four boards:

  • The Supervisory Board: composed of each partner‟s Person-in-Charge (PiC), the external science advisor, a director of EST, and representatives from MSRC. The SB will convene at each annual network meeting (ANM), and oversaw network progress. Any sensitive decisions will be reached by majority voting. The Supervisory Board was assisted by the other three boards, as described below.
  • The Recruitment Board: responsible for implementing the recruitment strategy. After month 21 the Recuitment Board merged with the Training Board to concentrate on training activities, reconvening when required for the additional Network appointments after the initial recruitment phase.
  • The Training Board: responsible for defining, monitoring, and reporting on network training activities. The Training Board monitored feedback from network fellows about the events, and established guidelines for best practise concerning training events. A copy of the Training Board’s final assessment of the training opportunities explored during the GCII project can be found here – GCII Training Board Final Report.
  • The Science Board: responsible for directing, monitoring, and reporting to the Supervisory Board on progress with work packages and science tasks, ensuring full exploitation of network synergies, and suggesting adjustments to the science programme as the science evolved both within and outside the network. A copy of the Science Boards’s final assessment of the training opportunities explored during the GCII project can be found here – GCII Science Board Final Report.

Outside of the Boards, the primary supervisors of each ER were be responsible for coordinating the science of the respective WP, inter-WP collaborations, and production of work package deliverables. Day-to-day management of the Network was handled by the Network Co-ordinator (the Scientist in Charge at the University of Cambridge) with the support of the Network Manager and administrative support offered at the partner institutions.

A poster summarising the Network’s management activities and highlights was presented at AGU2013.
