Analysis of health data using GIS and hospital and patient (postcode) data for hospital resource planning

Research Team: J. Law with CRISP

Abstract

This project linked patient data to the census areas using postal codes of the patients. This allowed the utilisation of the hospitals to be studied. When the results were mapped, they showed clearly for each hospital, the locations of its patients. The results are very useful in hospital resource planning, such as the expansion of hospital services for hospitals that were in great demand, and the improvement of hospital services for hospitals that may be under-utilised for certain reasons to be identified.
