The Department of Geography and the Scott Polar Research Institute are pleased to be active and successful participants in the:
- Arts and Humanities Research Council Doctoral Training Partnership
- Economic and Social Research Council Doctoral Training Partnership
- Natural Environment Research Council Doctoral Training Partnership
All UK students are eligible to apply. Eligibility for Research Council funding has recently changed. Eligibility is no longer restricted to UK and EU students. UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) announced on 20 August 2020 that it will offer studentships (covering course fees up to Home rate and living costs) to UK, EU and overseas students. UKRI requires DTPs to cap the number of awards to international students at a maximum of 30%.
If you wish to be considered for a Research Council studentship, you should indicate this on your application form. Prior to making your application you are strongly advised to find a prospective supervisor and speak with them to guide you through writing your research proposal.
Physical Science students may either write your own research proposal with guidance from a prospective supervisor or you may apply for one of the advertised projects listed on the Geography’s Physical Science PhD topics webpage.
