Senior Chief Research Technician [Laboratory and Field Equipment Services Manager].

Visiting Academic, Geography and Environmental Science, University of Southampton.

Geologist providing laboratory and field support to the department with interests in Pleistocene Geology, Glacial and Periglacial Geomorphology, Hydrogeology, Coastal studies (including coastal geomorphology and mangroves) and the use of drones (UAVs) in Geographical and Environmental research.

  • Management and supervision of the Geography Science Laboratories and Field Equipment Service.
  • Assisting with the implementation of research programmes.
  • Giving guidance, advice and training to graduate and undergraduate students on laboratory and field techniques.
  • Budgetary control for field and lab equipment.
  • Implementation of health & safety, and security policy in the laboratories.
  • Providing assistance with all aspects of fieldwork for both teaching and research.
  • Setting up, operating and maintaining analytical instruments.
  • Running procedures for extractions and analyses of samples.
  • Expertise in fieldwork logistics, and in data analysis and interpretation.
  • Providing laboratory and field expertise and support.
  • Responsible for the loan of departmental field equipment as part of the Fieldwork Equipment Service, operated primarily through the Geography Science Laboratories.
  • UAV Operations (PfCO).
  • Member of the Laboratories & Fieldwork Committee
  • Member of the Safety, Security and Working Environment Committee
