Research

Project title: Geological and geotechnical properties of glacial and periglacial sediments in the English South Midlands.

The project will investigate Quaternary processes and their effect on the geological and geotechnical properties of glacial and periglacial material. The project will investigate the spatial variability of these properties and their relationship to geological ground models in an area of the English South Midlands. The work is jointly supported by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and Arup. The research is being undertaken whilst on a leave of absence and with the support of the British Geological Survey (BGS).

Research interests:

  • Quaternary engineering geology and geomorphology
  • Spatial variability in geotechnical properties of glacial and periglacial engineering soils and their origins
  • Anthropogenic geology and geomorphology in the context of the Anthropocene
  • 3D geological ground models and their application to engineering geology
  • The geology of cities
  • The sustainable management and use of underground space in cities
