Department of Geography

Dr Aleksandr "Sasha" Montelli

Junior Research Fellow, Peterhouse

Sasha's research integrates geological and geophysical data and numerical modelling techniques to examine the past evolution of ice sheets and the adjacent oceans.

Biography

My current research interests encompass ice-sheet evolution and interactions between ice, ocean, atmosphere and solid earth on multiple temporal and spatial scales. I use interdisciplinary field- and laboratory-based approaches including the acquisition, processing and interpretation of high-resolution bathymetric, 2D and 3D seismic data; analysis of deep-drilling and sediment cores; and implementation of large-scale and targeted ice-sheet simulations. Geography of my projects span both hemispheres, including East and West Antarctica, the Eurasian Arctic and subarctic Pacific.
