AHRC (Arts and Humanities Research Council) Studentships – UK and EU applicants only

Topics for Geography Graduate study are sometimes eligible for funding by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC). These tend to be projects focused on more cultural and/or historical topics. As with other funding bodies the deadline for applications for AHRC studentships for PhD study is Tuesday, 7th January 2020.

The Department of Geography can nominate PhD applicants for AHRC funding, if their proposed thesis topic falls within one of the AHRC Subject Areas advertised at the Open-Oxford-Cambridge Doctoral Training Partnership. Please see the DTP website for information concerning how to apply and access the online application form for Cambridge entry.

Please note that you must have a fee status of “home” (eligible for a full award of fees and maintenance) or “EU” (eligible for fees only award) to be eligible for an AHRC award. To qualify for AHRC support for a PhD award (‘+3’) you will normally need to have completed or be completing a Masters.

PhD applicants should make contact and discuss their research proposal with a potential supervisor at the Geography Department. There is a list of the academics and their research interests on the main Geography website.

You should apply to the University via Graduate Admissions Office. Please allow plenty of time to complete your application. There are several documents you will need before you can submit your application. There is information about the application process elsewhere on our website, but the Graduate Admissions Office administers all graduate applications for the University. There is information about the application process on their website and a section with Frequently Asked Questions.

Please also contact the Geography Department’s Graduate Office to register your interest in an AHRC award.
