Examination requirements


The scheme of examination for the 11-month programme for the degree of MPhil in Conservation Leadership consists of:

  • Two essays, each not exceeding 4,000 words, on subjects chosen by the candidate from a list of subjects approved by the Degree Committee
  • Three written exercises, approved by the Degree Committee
  • A placement report of not more than 10,000 words in length, based on work carried out by the candidate in one or more conservation organisations. From 2018/19 this element of the assessment includes an oral presentation
  • Other course-work, which may include written work, group work, oral assessment and class participation

At the discretion of the Examiners, the examination requirements may include an oral examination on any or all of the assessed components of the MPhil. The pass mark is 60% and the mark for a distinction is 75%.
