A new census of male occupations for England and Wales c.1817
We have collected male occupational data from virtually every surviving Anglican parish baptism registers for the period 1813-20, some 11,400 registers in total. We aim to map and analyse this dataset at a variety of spatial levels including the individual parish, the ancient hundreds, nineteenth century registration districts and both ancient and registration counties.
We have put a selection of maps online and plan to add more:
