Research

His thesis is titled: "Infrastructures for disorder. Strategies for intervention on the obsolete public realm in Europe and their influence on social behaviour". It addresses a post-humanist view of urban public space that defends that the physical environment can influence culture and society. It studies how to intervene on the public space from the urban design discipline in the intermediate periphery of European cities: public spaces that are abandoned, has become obsolete and need to be regenerated. Taking Richard Sennett's (1970) statement that "certain kinds of disorder need to be increased in city life", one of his main objectives is to propose urban design strategies that introduce these certain kinds of disorder in public spaces with no urban life in order to provoke social interaction and a more intense use of the public realm. His research started with his Masters' thesis at UCL, where he proposed strategies for intervention on a council estate in Brixton. In his thesis, he will compare this case with others in Europe. At University of Cambridge's Department of Geography, he is developing part of his research together with Professor Ash Amin in order to strengthen the theoretical chapters and to work on the post-humanist view of urban public space and on the kinds of disorder that can have positive social and cultural outcomes in these neglected public spaces.
