Research

For over twenty years Gloria has advanced landscape studies on the culture and nature divide in Europe and the Mediterranean. More recently she has extended her interdisciplinary studies worldwide. Accordingly she is a member of several research clusters: Historical and Cultural Geography (Eucaland), Society and Environment (RtL), Political Ecology (3S & Co@st), Environmental Processes (Econet).

Gloria is Research Director of the Cambridge Centre for Landscape and People (CCLP), a new interdisciplinary research group part of CCI, and is Chair of the following CCLP Initiatives:

Current and recent research projects

Gloria is coordinator of the Eucaland Project – European Culture Expressed in Agricultural Landscapes – under the EC Culture Programme, and endorsed by the European Landscape Convention, Council of Europe, and the World Heritage Convention, UNESCO.

She was coordinator of the Econet Project – Ecological Networks for Sustainable Planning – under the EC Life Programme and editor of Ecological Networks and Greenways by CUP.

She has gathered a vast range of expertise in the following areas:

  • Landscape and nature conservation research for a variety of international government bodies and NGOs, and liaison with several landscape and nature conservation networks worldwide
  • Coordinating and chairing conferences and courses in landscape and nature conservation, and giving talks on a variety of associated topics
  • Managing interdisciplinary projects focussing on cultural landscape, biocultural diversity and conservation, landscape ecology, planning and policy
