Biography

I manage the Departments Building Services Team with responsibilities for facilities, maintenance, service and repair work. The role incorporates liaison with the University’s Estate Management and Contractors on matters of minor and major repair work. This includes the major refurbishment of the Department as a whole, installation of secondary glazing across two sites and I am currently involved in retrofitting our main building with a DDA complaint evacuation lift.

A core part of my role involves the design and build of instrumentation for the Department such as data loggers, sensors and environmental monitoring equipment. I manage the use of UAV’s as a Geographical tool within the department, in particular survey work generating 3D models, NDVI and elevation maps for use in teaching and research.

Projects include UAV based thermal imaging, custom made turbidity meters to monitor water quality, an Augmented Reality ‘sandbox’ for the University wide Science Festival, weather and gauging stations which have been deployed on glaciers in Switzerland and the Arctic, and the design and build of a wave generator for a lab based tilting flume.

I am the Departmental Safety Officer (DSO), Laser and Biological Safety Officer, Energy and Environment Coordinator (securing Bronze and Silver NUS Green Impact Awards) and Lead First Aider.

Prior to this I worked as Operations Manager for a Central London based Charity which provides education and creative opportunities to ex-offenders and at-risk youth. Here I was responsible for Health and Safety and Facilities Management for several sites across London and also gained the company environmental accreditation for work done across these sites.
