Research
My research involves using weather satellites to monitor volcanoes. In particular, I'm interested in developing simple models of eruption dynamics such that effusion rates and subsurface processes can be inferred from time series of the thermal radiance of erupted products. I'm applying these methods to the basaltic fissure eruptions that have occurred in Afar, Ethiopia over the past five years, as part of the multidisciplinary Afar Rift Consortium, which brings together geophysical, petrological and geodetic methods to better understand rifting.
