Examination requirements
All elements of the MPhil assessment must be passed in order for the degree to be obtained.
1. Coursework
Two 5,000 word essays. Each essay will count for 15% of the final mark. Essay topics will be selected from a list of titles relating to subjects covered in the core courses.
2. The dissertation
A dissertation of not more than 20,000 words which will count for 70% of the final mark.
3. Assessment
Assessment for the MPhil consists of two parts: unsupervised coursework and a supervised research dissertation. Coursework and dissertations will be marked on a numerical scale, with 60% or above being a pass, 70% being a merit and 75% being a distinction. Candidates are expected to pass all components by achieving a score of at least 60% of the marks allocated to the component.
