Optional Papers
The aim of the two option papers is to allow students to get a more in-depth understanding of particular issues, as an introduction to independent reading and analysis, and to reflect their particular interests. The option papers will be drawn from other MPhil programmes in the Geography Department and other related Departments in the University. They may change from year to year depending on staff availability. Participating MPhil programmes include: Gender Studies, Conservation Leadership. Environmental Science, Development Studies, Land Economy, Engineering for Sustainable Development, African Studies, South Asian Studies and Latin American Studies.

- Sociology and the Politics of Development
- The politics of the Middle East
An alternative to one option paper is a programme of approved guided reading. This must be agreed with your dissertation supervisor or another member of staff and approved by the Course Director.
